Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how FENLens handles information when you use the FENLens mobile app and related server features.
Information We Process
- Chessboard images. When you use camera, photo upload, or share-to-FENLens recognition, the app compresses the image and sends it to the FENLens backend to recognize the chess position.
- Recognition results. The backend returns chess position data such as FEN and related metadata.
- Device installation ID. FENLens creates a random app installation identifier to manage daily recognition limits and account deletion requests.
- Subscription status. If you purchase FENLens Pro, Apple purchase information such as subscription tier and transaction identifiers may be used to unlock Pro features and restore purchases.
- Server logs and metrics. We may process request timing, provider status, error logs, usage counters, and basic operational metrics to keep the service reliable.
Local Data
Your settings, imported positions, game history, PGN records, board preferences, and similar app data are stored on your device. FENLens does not use the backend as the primary storage location for your chess history.
How We Use Information
- To recognize chess positions from images.
- To provide chess analysis features such as best move, Mate Finder, and engine-backed evaluation.
- To enforce daily recognition limits for free and Pro users.
- To restore purchases and unlock Pro features.
- To diagnose failures, prevent abuse, and improve service reliability.
Third-Party Services
FENLens may use third-party services to provide core functionality:
- Apple App Store and In-App Purchase for subscriptions, purchase processing, and purchase restoration.
- AI model providers such as OpenRouter for chessboard image recognition.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers to run the FENLens backend.
Compressed images may be sent to AI model providers only for the purpose of recognizing chess positions.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not use your chessboard images for advertising tracking.
- We do not intentionally perform face recognition or identify people in images.
- We do not use IDFA-based cross-app tracking.
Image Retention
Images are processed to provide recognition. FENLens is designed to use compressed board images for recognition rather than full-resolution photos. Server-side operational copies or logs may be retained for a limited time for debugging, abuse prevention, and reliability, then removed during normal maintenance.
Account and Server Data Deletion
You can request deletion of server-side account data from the app settings using Delete My Account. After the request is submitted, the account is disabled and scheduled for deletion. Current policy: server-side account data is deleted after 1 day.
Deleting server-side account data does not automatically delete local device history. You can clear local history inside the app.
Children
FENLens is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to FENLens, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
Responsible Use and Disclaimer
Chess recognition and analysis results are provided for reference and learning. They may be inaccurate. FENLens is not responsible for decisions or outcomes based on analysis results. Do not use FENLens in ways that violate tournament rules, online chess platform rules, school rules, workplace rules, or applicable law.
